This past Saturday rekindled a love of country. I attended a combine derby out in Wellington. To those who don’t know derbies, it’s when vehicles are in a muddy arena and just careen into one another until only one remains working. For those of you city-folks a combine (pronunciation: COM-bine *a southern accent helps ) is like a ginormous tractor. I know it sounds silly but it is so much fun! When I was really little I went to car derbies, also referred to as demolition (or demo) derbies. So this was just a return to childhood for me. Plus I went with some good friends and we just laughed and cheered all night. Of course, us being the nerds that we are, though, we can’t just watch an event without trying to make it more complicated. Our new dream is to buy a combine, turn it into an autonomous (meaning no driver and it can think for itself) vehicle, and run it in a derby! Step 1: Raise funds for combine…
